When the Manchester Grand Resorts decided to build The Grand Del Mar, overlooking the Nick Fazio-designed golf course, luxurious would be the determining vision for every aspect of the resort. The 249 guest rooms include 12 Palazzo Suites, 5 Veranda Suites, 12 Prado Suites and two 2-bedroom, 2840-square-foot Presidential Suites, each with private balconies and spectacular golf course views.
Luxuriously appointed guestrooms are decorated in an elegant, yet inviting style, with dark wood furnishings, crown moldings, stylish light fixtures and earth-toned color schemes.
Guest amenities at the Grand Del Mar include feather- top beds with 100% goose down pillows, marble 5-fixture bathrooms with oversized tubs, vanities and separate showers, dining table and work station with CAT VI hookups featuring both wired and wireless broadband, high-speed internet access WEB-TV, in-room safes large enough to hold laptop computers, cordless phones with voice mail, caller identification speaker phones, 40-inch LCD color televisions with DVD players and 13-inch flat-screen color televisions in the bathroom.
Where would you find sub contractors to work in and around such opulence? General Coatings Corporation once again was called to the challenge in the same way Disney chose them to paint and wall cover its Disney Grand Californian Hotel. The challenge was breathtaking. In addition to the 249 exquisite rooms, painting and wallcovering were needed in 8 attached villas in two buildings, a private chapel, 20,000 s.f. of function space, a 21,000 s.f. full-service Spa with 4 swimming pools and sundry retail shops, a library, restaurant and dining areas, a pool house, an arrival center, tennis and lawn pavilions, back of the house kitchen, loading dock, laundry and storage areas and underground parking.
T he General Coatings’ team painted and wall covered walls and ceilings, painted crown moldings, wood baseboards, doors, casings, frames and wainscot with alkyd high gloss enamel, faux-finished doors, doorframes and window frames, sealed exterior cast stone with water repellant and applied patina on exterior rails, gazebos, patio rails, pool fences and cabanas, along with epoxy floor coatings in the laundry facility.
The constant presence of up to 12 other trades together with the preparation of all wood surfaces to enable seamless oil covered surfaces as well as the lengthy workday (sometimes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) from July through September made this a huge challenge.
The General Coatings Team led by Gary Vittori, Senior Estimator, Arturo Escalera, Superintendent, Ricardo Rodriguez, Foreman, worked extraordinary hours focused on details to produce a high quality |
